Trade Talk

June 4th, 2019

Thursday June 20th, the NBA draft will be taking place which will change the lives for many aspiring basketball players. Before this, on May 14, the New Orleans Pelicans struck big by winning the NBA lottery with an only 2% to do so. This 2% has a very big possibility of changing basketball for years to come. 2 men can change everything in the NBA very soon. Anthony Davis and projected no. 1 pick Zion Williamson who went one-and-done at Duke University with teammates, projected no. 3 pick R.J. Barrett and no. 5 pick Cam Reddish. These 2 basketball players are at the top of their game and there are some very close trades involving Davis who was the franchise of the Pelicans who now wants out of New Orleans.

Staying in the Western Conference, housing one of the best basketball players the game has ever seen in LeBron James is the Los Angeles Lakers. They acquired James to help turn around their franchise but in his first season the Lakers continued to miss the playoffs. Now the Lakers have a new coaching staff and their General Manager Magic Johnson former Lakers point guard has just stepped down so James and the Lakers are hopefully turning things around. The Lakers have won the 4th pick in this years NBA draft. Although one of the members of their young core Lonzo Ball has been missing games due to injury and even though when he is on the court Ball doesn’t look like he is at his best, all the time. In the West as well, the troubling Phoenix Suns who have been an atrocity these past few years have had trouble finding themselves a sustainable point guard who can help take some of the pressure off of star guard Devin Booker. Booker is going to be on his second year of his 5 year contract in Phoenix so finding a lock down defensive and passing first type of point guard is critical to new head coach Monty Williams to help use Booker most effectively. The Lakers have signed veteran Rajon Rondo this past season so since Lonzo Ball would be the second option in Los Angeles, Phoenix has been thinking of trade possibilities for Ball.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, and New Orleans Pelicans are all trying to start new seasons with bigger aspirations hoping to reach the NBA playoffs. Their is a 3 team trade that can give all 3 teams what they want and for what 29 teams want to see happen, the Golden State Warriors to lose. The trade goes as follows, firstly the Phoenix Suns will trade the 6th overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft for Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball. Following this, the Lakers will then trade the 4th pick, 6th pick, and Brandon Ingram for All-Star Center Anthony Davis. This will lead to the New Orleans Pelicans having the 1st pick, 4th pick, 6th pick, and the versatile Brandon Ingram. The Pelicans will most likely select Zion Williamson with their number one pick. They will then be able to do whatever they want with their remaining picks to help dethrone the powerhouse Golden State Warriors.
